A Ric Rac Art Party

One of the great things about parties is that the simplest inspiration can create an entire theme! A while back, I came across this cute Craft Party by Amy at Living Locurto, which featured a Ric-Rac cake.  As I was thinking about what to do for Arielle's Art Party, I decided that a little Ric-Rac could create the perfect inspiration!

I started by creating this Ric Rac Banner.  You can find the instructions HERE!

With the leftover felt scraps, I was able to make these cute, colorful set-ups.....

Decorative Water Bottles....

... and fancy good bags which held their art aprons and pinata candy!

Since they were such a hit, I made the same Artist Palette Cupcakes as I did for Anna's Art Party
(Idea Courtesy of What's New, Cupcake? by Alan Richardson and Karen Tack)

This time, instead of making a single edible paint brush,
I made enough for everyone!

(Who knew that a pretzel rod, a couple of Tootsie Rolls and a fruit rollup could be so artistic?)

Pre-scooped ice cream in ruffled cupcake liners make serving a breeze.

It's just not a party without Cheetos!
Rainbow fruit kabobs added a colorful touch of nutrition.
Marshmallows are considered a fruit, aren't they?

We were fortunate enough to have the girls' art teacher instructing!

Each little artist went home with their own masterpiece on canvas.
I can't wait to hang (all three!) of mine!

Butter Bean Soup

Happy New Year!  We are off to a cold start! It's so cold that the Governor cancelled school for the entire state! That never happens. Up here in Minnesota, when it gets cold, we just pull up our snow pants and pull down our hats.  In the South, they say it's not the heat, it's the humidity.  Up North, we say it's not the cold, it's the wind.  Windchill temperatures (what it actually feels like), are said to be -40 to -50 degrees Fahrenheit. That's the coldest it's been since 1996 - just shortly before we moved to Atlanta.  Hmmmm…… it's all coming back to me now.  Nevertheless, my 16-year old says it's a great way to start second semester! When it's cold outside, there is nothing I love more than making soup. Soup is the perfect excuse to stand over a hot stove on a cold day. You can hold soup in a coffee mug and let it warm your hands. You can sip soup in the same mug and let it warm you from the inside out. There's a reason for ...

Cute Cupcake Boxes!

Image
I love to bake cupcakes and so, in an effort to prevent us from eating them all, I am always looking for cute and practical ways to give them away! I was thrilled to find these adorable cupcake boxes at Michael's !  The cupcake boxes come in a variety of patterns.  I liked this all-purpose festive box.  I thought it went perfectly with my Confetti Cupcakes.  They even include a cupcake insert so the cupcakes won't topple over! If you really want to be coordinated, you can buy matching cupcake liners! Who wouldn't want to receive a gift that looks like this? I'm sharing this post over at The Martha Stewart Cupcakes Club .  If you love cupcakes like I do, you are welcome to come and join the baking fun!  On August 15th, we're baking Rhubarb Cupcakes.  YUMM!  Come and check it out! **P.S.  This post is not affiliated with Michael's.  Just sharing with you something that I love! :-)

Dr. Seuss Snacks!

Image
One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish.  I admit it.  I love Dr. Seuss!  A collection of these sing-song-y rhymes was the first thing I put on the bookshelves of our very first baby nursery.  Four kids later, I now have talents that include being able to recite The Cat In The Hat from memory! In honor of the late great Dr. Seuss (He would have been 107 on March 2nd) we are making these cute snacks!  Absolutely no skill or talent required! Simply start with a box of blue Jell-O..... and divide into four clear plastic cups. (The fish have to have a place to swim!) After the Jell-O has set, have the kids add their own fish!  (Swedish Fish, that is!) Ella's kindergarten class gets a Dr. Seuss party after they have collectively read 107 books! Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!
