What Happened This Week......

Summer is half over.  Can I whine just a little?  Okay.  Here it is.... WAAH!!!!  I'm not whining out of regret.  I'm whining because I love it so much.  I love sleeping in, walking barefoot and shopping at the Farmer's Market. I love grilling dinner (i.e. watching the hubby grill dinner), eating on the patio and growing tomatoes. I love picking rhubarb, concerts on the lawn and watching the sunset.

Here's some of the things I loved this week:

  • Strawberry Picking With the Cousins.  It's one of my favorite things to do during the summer: driving out into the middle of nowhere on curvy roads, passing tall silos and red barns. Fresh picked strawberries present unlimited possibilities:  Strawberry Jam, Strawberry Pie, Strawberry Scones and, of course, Fresh Strawberries!  Just the smell of fresh strawberries makes me believe that I could have been happy as a farmer.  The girls agree.

  • Another Anniversary. Nineteen Years. Wowsers. I think I was 18.  Or maybe 12.  It's so long ago I don't remember.  I knew it had been a long time when I actually considered bringing the kids along for our night out. We picked our favorite casual rooftop dining spot.  A spot that's good for conversation.  The couple next to us was celebrating 26 years. They were impressed that I still got a card.  And flowers.  He's always been good with the flowers. I'm just lucky, I guess.

  • The Dog had a Birthday. We had a party.  With a dog friend and cake. Is that wrong? The kids spent their own money on dog presents. I think he knew it was his birthday.  He's smart like that.
  • My boy got his permit. It's a huge milestone - the step from passenger to driver. I didn't think I would ever be able to stomach trading places, but when the time came, I wanted to be the one to drive him to his permit test and I wanted to be the first one to ride by his side.  We haven't left the neighborhood yet, but so far, his record's clean.

  • I watched the sunset.  It's a ritual I try not to miss. Don't ever take it for granted.

Sounds like a fun week!
Happy Anniversary! I've been thinking about your wedding... Krista is learning Wedding Day at Trollhagen. :) I can never hear that piece without thinking of you.

I've been wanting to go pick some fruit- blueberries here in NJ- but this 90+ weather has me wilting and thinking fuggedaboutit.

Absolutely gorgeous sunset shot.

I just noticed it's the 15th... are we supposed to be baking something for the Cupcake Club?????
