Vanilla Sugar

Remember all those delicious little black seeds that you scraped out of the vanilla bean pod when you made yesterday's Rhubarb Cupcakes?  Don't throw that homely little black pod away!  Make Vanilla Sugar!
  1. Cut the vanilla bean in half and place it in a beautiful, clean canning jar.
  2. Top with the sugar.
  3. Place the lid on and shake.
  4. Wonder why you hadn't thought of something so easy before!

The vanilla essence will infuse the sugar giving everything it touches a heightened sense of sophistication.
i.e.  it will make everything yummier!!

Still not sure what to do with it?  Try these suggestions:

  • Sprinkle it on cookies or muffins
  • Add it to your morning coffee or tea
  • Stir it into Hot Chocolate
  • Use it in place of regular sugar in your baking
  • Spoon it over oatmeal
  • Use it in your toppings for crumbles or crisps
  • Give it away as gifts! (Just make sure you keep some for yourself!)
Almost any situation that calls for sugar can be upgraded with vanilla sugar.  When you've used up your vanilla sugar, just refill!  Your supply will be endless.  You'll wonder what you ever did without it!

I couldn't have seen this at a better time, I just made vanilla bean scones tonight and had been wanting to put the pod to good use, too! Now I have a little jar of vanilla sugar, I can't wait to use it! Thanks for the idea :)

I've been wanting to make my own vanilla flavoring and vanilla sugar for a while. I've seen recipes that call for the vanilla sugar. Wish I would have bookmarked them. Thanks for reminding me about the sugar and for sharing on Sweet Indulgences Sunday.

I will definitely try this, I've done vanilla extract using vodka but didn't know you could also flavor sugar in basically the same way. Thanks for sharing!

Oh yeah, I love vanilla sugar. I made Meyer Lemon curd with it one time (because I ran out of regular sugar) and it was surprisingly amazing. :) Feel free to add that to your list! ;)

I blog just turned 1 and I'm hosting a little Giveaway as a way to say Thank You. Please hop over to enter if you're interested. http://utry.it
